Herman Parish was in the fourth grade when his aunt, Peggy Parish, wrote the first book about Amelia Bedelia. Peggy Parish died in 1988. Since then Herman has written sixteen books about the grown-up Amelia Bedelia, as well as eight books about Amelia Bedelia as a young girl. Lynne Avril is the illustrator of all the books about the young Amelia Bedelia, including Amelia Bedelia’s First Day of School, Amelia Bedelia’s First Valentine, Amelia Bedelia’s First Vote, and Amelia Bedelia Makes a Friend, as well as more than 50 other books for children. She grew up in Montana and now makes her home in Arizona.
