AGENT STORM

Tim Lister Paul Cruickshank Morten Storm

My Life inside al-Qaeda

STORM: The Double Agent Who Destroyed al Qaeda is a memoir with all the markings of a first class spy thriller.
Morten Storm, a young Danish man from a windswept town on the North Sea, lived a double life in some of the most dangerous places in the world. After converting to Islam, he reached the brink of becoming a jihadist, rubbing shoulders with al Qaeda's most wanted in Yemen, Somalia and Europe. He celebrated 9/11 with them. But, as suddenly as he had found Islam, he despaired of it and began working for no fewer than three Western intelligence agencies, including the CIA, as one of their most valued informants. From then on, Storm led an almost schizophrenic existence - plotting and planning with al Qaeda leaders even as US drones lurked in the sky above, and then jetting off to high-end Mediterranean resorts where he would meet western agents and party into the night. But his mission could not be more serious: locating and targeting the man who became America’s most wanted terrorist. STORM: The Double Agent Who Destroyed al Qaeda by Morten Storm, with Paul Cruickshank and Tim Lister -- two journalists who have been closely following Storm’s story from the beginning -- is a wild and absorbing tale of true-life espionage that fans of Zero Dark Thirty, John le Carré, and Homeland will devour. Filled with stories of coded messages, covert meetings, and the shadowy motivations of a double agent, this book will present a never-before-seen look inside the most powerful and feared terrorist network. Paul Cruickshank is a New York based investigative reporter specializing in al Qaeda, a CNN Terrorism Analyst, and an Alumni Fellow at the Center on Law and Security at New York University’s School of Law. He previously worked as an investigative journalist in London, reporting on al Qaeda and its European affiliates and was part of the CNN reporting team that covered the London July 7, 2005 attacks. Cruickshank is the editor of “Al Qaeda” (Routledge, 2012), a five volume collection of the key scholarly research on the terrorist network. Tim Lister has covered international news for 25 years as a producer and reporter for the BBC and CNN. He has lived and worked in the Middle East, and has also worked in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In 2004, he produced the award-winning documentary “Between Hope and Fear: Journeys in the New Iraq” for CNN.
