Following her best sellers Per dieci minuti (200.000 copies sold) and Avrò cura di te (280.000 copies sold), Chiara Gamberale takes us into the suspended, marvelous and glowing world of falling in love. A special, unique, novel by a much loved author.
A moment comes, for all of us, after which nothing will ever be the same again. That moment is when we fall in love – as Lidia and Pietro do. She is always on the lookout for strong emotions, while he is an introvert, a prisoner of his past. They meet. And take a pause. Lidia tries to break free from a life full of things and from Lorenzo, the great love of her life. Pietro, on the other hand, asks himself the permission to be, simply, happy, discovering however that happiness implies coming into contact with pain... In the infernal din of Rome and the silence of an enchanted island in Sicily, Lidia and Pietro pursue the music that could bind them...
Chiara Gamberale tells us about falling in love from the inside. Relying on a narrative voice that is at once dreamy and clinical, the author brings us into direct contact with the soaring outburst of the lovers, with their fears and their hesitations. She leads us all the way to that point, “under the ribs, just above the belly” where that which we all aspire but are afraid of can happen: to change. And around Lidia e Pietro a flurry of tragicomic and irresistible personages remind us of those people who never stop and continue to pursue others and to escape from themselves...
Born in 1977, Chiara Gamberale lives in Rome. She debuted in 1999 with Una vita sottile, followed, among others, by La zona cieca (Bompiani 2008, Selezione Campiello Prize), Le luci nelle case degli altri (Mondadori 2010) and by the bestsellers Per dieci minuti (Feltrinelli 2013) and Avrò cura di te (with Massimo Gramellini, Longanesi 2014). Her books have been translated in sixteen countries. She hosts a number of radio and TV shows, besides writing for “La Stampa”, “Vanity Fair”, “Donna Moderna” and “Io Donna”. A TV series is currently being shot from her book Le luci nelle case degli altri.
