Eileen Ramsay has signed a ten book contract with Bonnier Publishing. At the moment she is writing the first book of a four book series based on the G.I. Brides of WW11. Meanwhile they are re-issuing her backlist under the banner FLOWERS OF SCOTLAND

A Pinch of Salt The latest release in the Flowers of Scotland series - A Pinch of Salt – is a story set in a mining community in the south of Scotland in the early years of the twentieth century, before and after the First World War.
Kate Kennedy is thirteen and loves attending school but – as the daughter of a coal miner - she knows she has no chance of a real education. Even at her age she recognizes the artistic skill of her brother and prays that somehow he will be allowed to

go to school and not, like every other male in the village, go down the mines. Her own dreams wither and die as her mother dies in childbirth and Kate becomes ‘lady of the house'. Her brother becomes a miner – after all, the wages are slightly better than working on the land - but the world goes to war and the ‘could have been a great artist' becomes a soldier. A neighbour courts Kate. Although instinct tells Kate that she is not ‘in love' with Charlie, she marries him but her marriage is unhappy. She has two children and prays that her son will become a Priest and that her daughter will not break her heart. Kate is a good baker and so she starts a business, making her delicious pies, loading them into her pram and selling them around the village. Eventually she is able to start a business in the town, other companies hear of her, and as the world tries to recover from the horrors of war she is faced with a dilemma – either continue as she is or join a company that will make her and her family wealthy. Which will Kate choose? And what of her hopes for her children?




EILEEN RAMSAY was born in Scotland and educated there and in the U.S and Mexico. She went through college babysitting for G.I. families stationed near Edinburgh and visited several while touring the U.S after graduation. Eileen, who is Chairman of the Romantic Novelists Association, lives in Angus with her husband whom she met while she was working on the archives of a Presidential
campaign.
