A NECESSARY IMAGINATION FOR BEING ALIVE

Morgan Harper Nichols

Morgan Harper Nichols learned firsthandthrough her mental health struggles and her autism diagnosis at 31that imagination is necessary for survival. It was within the rich narrative universes created by writers such as Octavia Butler and N.K. Jemisin that Morgan found affirming spaces and came to see worldbuilding as a powerful tool for navigating reality.
Inspired by this transformative experience, A NECESSARY IMAGINATION FOR BEING ALIVE shows us that we are all worldbuilders capable of shaping our personal landscapes to better reflect our unique experiences, needs, and aspirations. From the worlds that Morgan had to create out of necessity, she illuminates a path for readers to harness the vast potential within their own worlds. Through never-before-shared stories along with affirmations and exercises, Morgan offers readers the tools to nurture adaptability, curiosity, and nonlinear thinking so they can live life on their own terms. Whether it's redesigning one's life to make room for courage or breaking the rules to find greater freedom, this book will empower readers to find deeper alignment in their lives through creative boundaries, unconventional solutions, and self-advocacy. A NECESSARY IMAGINATION FOR BEING ALIVE is an invitation to discover optimism within our own stories and cultivate hope through possibility.
