A LEGIONNAIRE'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND PEACE

Emily Skrutskie

A Novel

Emily Skrutskie is the author of The Bloodright Trilogy and THE SALVATION GAMBIT, and she's back with A LEGIONNAIRE'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND PEACE! In this fun and tongue-in-cheek standalone, Katrien is a front-line soldier waiting for the final decisive battle to start at dawn and understands all too well she won't make it out alive. So what's a girl to do with her final night? Have a one-night stand with Emory, her dedicated battle partner, of course. It doesn't matter that it's against the rules, as long as she goes out with no regrets.
Only...the world doesn't end the next day. A team of plucky heroes with a hidden prince named Adrien at the helm came in at the last second and defeated the Big Bad, meaning that everyone stays alive. Now all of a sudden, Kat and Emory have to face the consequences and feelings of their no-strings-attached night as Adrien calls to lead a victory tour before releasing everyone from their service. Meaning Kat and Emory are stuck in their feelings together to trudge across the land one last time. And to complicate matters, Adrien has made Kat his bride-to-be and she and Emory still can't keep their hands off each other. Can either of them decide what they truly mean to each other before the consequences of their desperate hook-up can catch up to them? Or will they continue to deny it all?

This is truly a feel-good medieval-inspired story with a large cast of memorable characters and found family that explores life after the battle is over like Travis Baldree's LEGENDS & LATTES and Shannon Chakraborty's THE ADVENTURES OF AMINA AL-SIRAFI.

Emily Skrutskie lives and works in Los Angeles. Skrutskie is the author of THE SALVATION GAMBIT, VOWS OF EMPIRE, OATHS OF LEGACY, BONDS OF BRASS, HULLMETAL GIRLS, THE ABYSS SURROUNDS US, and THE EDGE OF THE ABYSS.

At times gory, visceral, and action-packed, at times gorgeously soft, this novel is a fabulous addition to your fantasy bookshelf. Skrutskie's heroine is an incredibly refreshing voice, framed by lush worldbuilding, a queernormative setting, and a truly fascinating magic system (plus some pointed asides on generational wealth). . . . A gripping read.

An utterly charming blend of romance, adventure, found family, politics, and one of the most captivating magic systems I've read in ages . . . I loved it!

In her latest, Skrutskie gifts us every bisexual jock's dream: building post-war infrastructure with your situationship. Between the heartwarming romance and the heart-pounding battles, there's something for everyone to love. . . . A certified romp.

With boots-on-the-ground battle scenes, a tall and bulky heroine, and a friends-to-lovers relationship that shows two people reveling in one another's company (in addition to a steamy scene or two), this is a unique and welcome addition to the romantasy genre.

Skrutskie's endlessly inventive fantasy is a perfect paean to the everyday magic after the epic victory, lively with wry humor, passion and pathos. A Legionnaire's Guide to Love and Peace is a joyful reminder that what's most important in saving the world is who you do it with.
