A DEADLY SECRET

Matt Birkbeck

The Bizarre And Chilling Story of Robert Durst

Multimillionaire Robert Durst, subject of the new HBO documentary The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, was arrested on March 14th for the 15 year old murder of his friend and confidante Susan Berman. Police believed that Berman could link Durst to a previous crime: the disappearance of his wife Kathie.
This case has been all over the media because: for decades, Robert Durst has been a person of interest in several murders; in The Jinx documentary, he appears to actually confess to all of the crimes(this video goes into detail about the confession and offers a timeline for some events in Durst’s life); he was actually tried—and acquitted—for one murder in 2003 (the victim’s head has never been found); besides being a possible murder, Durst has a history of erratic behavior.

As more sensational details are revealed about his life—leading to and including the impending trial, Robert Durst is going to be in the media spotlight for some time to come.

Berkley is publishing an updated edition of A Deadly Secret: The Strange Disappearance Of Kathie Durst by Matt Birkbeck. Originally published in 2002, this in depth journalistic investigation examines what transpired in the years between Kathie’s disappearance and Durst’s 2001 arrest for the murder/dismemberment of drifter Morris Black. (Backed by a $2 million defense team, Durst claimed self-defense—and was acquitted.)
